I am worried about Red Herring. Their website is a public benefit but they may put it at risk by going back to print.

Apparently at Seybold San Francisco they announced a new launch for a print magazine sometime later in 2004. http://www.redherring.com/BlogHome.aspx Not sure if this link will last but you can find it as 'So You Want To Start A Magazine?'.

They report that circulation for business magazines stabilised in 2003 after declines in 2000 and 2001. This might have something to do with the crash in internet momentum. There is a theory about an 'echo bubble' that may explain some of the recovery in 2002 and 2003. In the UK the share pattern of Last Minute dotcom is not reassuring about 2004.

Even if there is now an advance in advertising revenues, why would this be a good time to relaunch as print? The website seems ok. The report from Seybold mentions blogs and community and how this works well online.

However, they may have a point. 'Print is not going away'. Maybe I should look at print more. But the risk / cost in a bit of blogging is much lower as it seems.
